Experience Drumming! Round Up

Again in 2022-2023, the Percussion Marketing Council will be one of 23 organizations receiving NAMM Foundation Grants for providing music outreach and opportunities to increase interest in making music. The annual NAMM Foundation grant reflects the commitment of all NAMM members and their ongoing participation in the music product industry’s annual gathering at the NAMM show.

Playdrums.com’s Experience Drumming!, the flagship learning initiative of the Percussion Marketing Council, offers experiential and interactive drumming events for groups of all ages and abilities across the United States.

In 2021-22 we were able to increase access to in-person and virtual drumming experiences in the United States to create more music-makers. We sponsored 40 events in 12 states, led by 13 percussive arts leaders, 11 of whom are new to the PMC and its program. These facilitators hosted in-person community events with a total of 5,850 attendees experiencing drumming in various formats.

To promote Experience Drumming! events and raise awareness of the benefits of drumming, the PMC has:

  • produced new banners and stickers for events

  • developed and distributed two member newsletters

  • earned media placements in music industry publications

  • created and distributed a new retailer toolkit to help promote "Lesson with a Master" and International Drum Month (May)

International Drum Month Engages Students and Gives Back to Music Retailers

This year, PMC celebrated International Drum Month in May 2022 with the annual “Lesson with a Master” promotion through PlayDrums.com. The popular giveaway attracted hundreds of entries from players of all levels and ages.

Six individuals, selected at random, each won a private Zoom lesson with the master artist of their choice: Terry Bozzio, Dave DiCenso, Allison Miller, Eric Moore, Dorothea Taylor, and Paul Wertico.

In addition to the virtual Zoom lesson with a master drummer, PlayDrums.com awarded each winner $200 to spend on new gear or drum lessons at their local music store. The stores included Schmitt Music (Omaha, NE), Moon Dog Drum Shop (Galesburg, IL), Guitar Center, Bach to Rock (Apex, NC), and Woody’s Music (Rock Hill, SC).

“It’s important to PMC members that we assist retailers with tools to promote the giveaway and by awarding the winners gift cards, we’re offering another incentive to bring customers into their store,” adds Antoinette Follett, PMC Executive Director.
