PMC - Percussion marketing council

VISION:
The Percussion Marketing Council recognizes the innate human connection with rhythmic and percussive activities and believes all people, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or ability, should have access to explore one of the easiest and most basic music-making activities -- drumming.

MISSION:
The PMC's mission is to increase interest and engagement in drumming and percussion activities by advocating for music education programs, expanding access to percussion instruments, and inspiring music-making opportunities. PlayDrums.com connects the activities of our members, drummers, and percussion community.

GOALS:

A. To promote drumming as a positive experience for all individuals regardless of age, gender, musical background, economic means, education or geographic location.

B. To unify the percussion products industry in order to create a stronger voice in the music industry and a forum for greater communication among all companies and members.

C. To expand both the percussion market and demand for percussion instruments through the increased visibility of all forms of percussion.

D. To create programs and opportunities for percussion expansion by connecting retail music merchants with non-traditional music and non-music educators that can bring percussion into the schools and classrooms above and beyond traditional instrumental band and orchestra programs.

CAMPAIGNS, PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES:

  • Experience Drumming!: The flagship learning initiative of the PMC, Experience Drumming! offers educational and interactive drumming events for groups of all ages and abilities. Current components include Percussion in the Schools and Libraries, Drumming Connnects Us Events, and more. Over twenty thousand students experience drums and drumming in some form every year through these in-school all-school special events, presentation and student performance concerts.

  • Drum Set in the Classroom: Based upon the decade-long success of the Roots of Rhythm program, teachers, students, parents, and administrators all get a chance to learn and play basic drum set “rock-beats” and rhythms of an acoustic and/or electronic drum kit. These first-time experiences behind a drum kit are life-changing and are creating more interest in drums and drumming through this classroom program.

  • International Drum Month (May) continues to play a dominant part of the annual PMC promotions, drawing larger audiences together in order to learn more about drumming. The public awareness campaign includes consumer contest enrollment, in-store tie-ins, and national retailer posting.

  • Get Drumming: Online, social media driven contest which provides a monthly selected winner four prepaid drum lessons with a practice pad and new drum sticks to get started at home from a local drum or music retail outlet, courtesy of the PMC.

  • Drumming Connects Us: A collaboration of PlayDrums.com and Hit Like a Girl, Drumming Connects Us (DCU) facilitates both in-person drumming events and online drumming influencers to inspire new drummers. Drumming Connects Us Events offers a template to share drumming at community events such as arts fairs, summer festivals, or retailer and shopping mall event where drum lessons can be provided. The DCU Community influencers offer an organic network of promotion to learning and inspiring new drummers.

Year after year, the PMC has continued to expand public engagement with percussion instruments thanks to the participation of our industry members and the generous support of the NAMM Foundation grant.
