PMC Program Report — 2021-2022

The PMC’s mission is to increase interest and engagement in drumming and percussion activities by advocating for music education programs, expanding access to percussion instruments, and inspiring music making opportunities.

Funding to reinvigorate and expand the PMC education programs into existing and new communities and with additional videos comes through a grant to the Percussion Marketing Council from the NAMM Foundation.

The annual NAMM Foundation grant reflects the commitment of all NAMM members and their ongoing participation in the music product industry’s annual gathering at the NAMM show.

In 2021-2022, Playdrums.com activated in-person events again in communities where this was safe to do, curated the video series with more dynamic presenters and topics, engaged many more percussive arts leaders, and expanded access and geographic reach for percussion education events.

Playdrums.com’s Experience Drumming!, the flagship learning initiative of the Percussion Marketing Council, offers experiential and interactive drumming events for groups of all ages and abilities across the United States.

Experience Drumming! program goals for 2021-22:

01.

Increase access to in-person and virtual drumming experiences in the United States to create more music-makers.

02.

Expand the number of participating percussive arts leaders and facilitators.

03.

Extend the program beyond the existing footprint to as many as 10 additional states.

04.

Revitalize relationships with key partner organizations including PAS, the NAfME, NASMD, and more.

Program funding awards averaged $250 per approved event. Fees for percussive arts leaders are offset by the NAMM Foundation grant and occasionally through co-sponsorships secured at the local level. Members of the PMC offered support and materials to ensure a successful learning event.

In 2021-22 we were able to increase access to in-person and virtual drumming experiences in the United States to create more music-makers. We sponsored 40 events in 12 states, led by 13 percussive arts leaders, 11 of whom are new to the PMC and its program.  These facilitators hosted in-person community events with a total of 5,850 attendees experiencing drumming in various formats.

Membership

As the official trade association of the percussion industry, the Percussion Marketing Council, through its PlayDrums.com website, connects the activities of our corporate members, nonprofit partners, and the global percussion community.

Member engagement is essential to PMC’s goals of promoting interest and engagement in drumming and percussion through music education, as well as access to instruments and music-making opportunities. Visit PlayDrums.com to find out how your company and brand can partner with PMC and PlayDrums.com.

The PMC executive board’s role is to continue guiding the organization to invest in activities to engage current and future drummers and percussionists; we recently welcomed six new executives from industry and nonprofit areas to the board (see below).
